Can't start new iMovie project on iPad Air

Hi, I need to make a project for my university degree, final assessment. I am hoping to use iMovie on my iPad Air, as I have done so successfully in the past.

This week, I go in to iMovie and click on the + symbol. Then I click on the option to create a project or trailer. But when I click on either of those options, nothing happens. If I click cancel, nothing happens and the app freezes. I then need to close it and re-open the app.

Viewing past projects is not a problem.

Any clues gratefully received. I wonder if this is because I have recently updated iOs.
